Rounding Up in the Warehouse District

We beggin our experience in the Warehouse District, a place where the architecture, including refurbished factories and old-world brick streets, provides a striking backdrop for Raleigh's street art.

At West and Martin Street, a 'Welcome to Raleigh' mural heralds all who pass by. This splendid piece of art, rendered with a delightful melange of colors, plunges our eyes deep into a world of howdy's and y'all's. Radiating a warm, inviting, and distinctly southern welcome, it elicits the audacious spirit of Raleigh.

Our next stop, the Contemporary Art Museum—a brick complex boasting graffiti-style murals done by both regional, national, and international artists—is sure to pique your curiosity. Adorning the building's exterior are scene-stealing spray can variants intertwining entrancing narratives with hues straight from the imagination. Undoubtedly, it's one of Raleigh's proudest street art venues.

Wandering Through Fayetteville Street

Leaving the rugged grounds of the Warehouse District, we walk towards the heartbeat of Raleigh—Fayetteville Street. The hustle and bustle of city life are softened by verdant street trees, as gently quaint buildings frosted with modernity house various technicolor masterpieces.

Metaphorically stop and smell the roses at a mural of exuberant flower bouquets bursting with vividity on Fayetteville Street. Its cheeky colors add a playful touch to the business hub, reminding passersby to pause and find joy amid the fast-paced routines.

Stumbled Upon Stories in the City Market

In the charming, cobblestoned City Market, history and artistry intersect. Surprisingly serene despite its central location, it’s a haven for intimate cafés, artisanal boutiques, and of late, gorgeous murals, blooming over the rustic brick walls.

Exuding a touch of whimsy, the murals here tell stories of Raleigh culture and heritage. There’s a unique tale inked on every wall, whether featuring playful cats twirling around bird-cages, or a vintage convertible cruising beneath an artistically rendered sky. City Market’s murals allow the city's heart to bare its vivid colors and nuanced soul in an incredible fashion.

A hop, skip and a jump into Boylan Heights

In Boylan Heights, an artistic epidemic of sorts seems to have bathed the walls. From vivid abstract creations to lifelike portraits, the neighborhood's streets, strutting their graffiti garb, defy dullness.

Perhaps most loved among the locals is the oversized ode to Raleigh Arsenal's soccer prowess, painted impressively by Artist Taylor White. Sharing the wall are other Kelly green renderings reminiscent of of sprouting springtime. Just across, another wall sings the city's praises, showcasing our hometown heroes in compelling monochrome.

The discourse in Mordecai

Finally, the Mordecai neighborhood offers plentiful whispered sonnets of artistically translated solidarity. Mingling among heritage homes and nested in quaint nooks, you'll find murals shared for the love of the neighborhood and in respect for the inspiration it provides.

Inescapably attracting attention is the mural of Jebediah Springfield by artist Shaun Richards. On charmingly weathered wood, Jebediah’s gaze, aimed towards the future, invokes a mixture of nostalgia, admiration, and hope. It’s a symbol of the resilience and enduring charm imbibed by Raleigh.

Similarly, a mural entitled 'Deeply Woven Roots' lovingly mirrors the community's essence, embracing diversity and unity in the brush strokes of Lane Mann.
